My own personal journey:
Hello everyone, and welcome to LVEFitness. My name is Matthew Ernst, and I am currently trying to live my excuse free life. Over the past 4 1/2 years, I have been on a fitness and nutrition journey trying to improve my overall quality of life. In these 4 1/2 years, I have lost over 120 pounds, and kept it off, using various diets and exercise programs that I have found and modified to fit my fitness needs. I have made this blog to hopefully inspire and help people like me that are looking for a lifestyle change and not just a quick fix.
I have a Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science, from Longwood University. I am a Physical Education/ Health teacher, and the Strength Coach at the High School where I work.
Why the lifestyle change?
Ever since I was a kid I was always, for a lack of better words, a fat person. But, in the same token, I was always athletic. I excelled in sports in my youth. In High School, I was All-State in both Football and Baseball, winning many awards for my accomplishments on the field. I held the schools bench press record and used my size to my advantage for sports.
But then my sports career ended….
I was out of college, working construction, and doing everything I could do to destroy my health. I was eating fast food 2-3 times a day, smoking, doing chewing tobacco, drinking massive amounts of soda and energy drinks, and drinking large amounts of alcohol on the weekends. I was on the path to an early grave.
I then got a position as a PE teacher, when an opening came about at my old high school. I didn’t look the part for sure. I was “teaching”, my students what they should be doing, but I wasn’t doing it myself. I was the biggest hypocrite in the world.
In the Spring of 2012, my daughter was born. She is the main reason for the change. One day, I looked in the mirror and said “what am I doing with my life?”. Had let my weight get to up to 350+ pounds and felt physically and mentally ill.
I needed a change! So, I began my journey using the knowledge I had, and began to do as much research as possible about weight loss and fitness to help me along the way.
It has been almost 5 years now, and I am in the best shape of my life. When I teach my classes, I know the students can tell that I am passionate about health and fitness and live what I teach. I also feel that I am setting a better example for my children. I want them growing up having a role model that exhibits healthy life choices and sets a good example.
I hope to use this site to help people reach their own fitness goals. No matter where you are starting on your own fitness journey, I hope I can help and inspire you to keep moving forward, and make no excuses.
